March 7, 2017 – Death of Hans Georg Dehmelt, Nobel Prize for his contribution to the advancement of microphysics

German-American physicist and university professor who investigated the primary components of matter and their isolation methods, leading to a breakthrough in microphysics.

His studies led him to be able to isolate an electron for hours, which enabled him to study it in depth and make highly precise measurements of its properties. After that, he perfected the technique and managed to increase the precision of the measurements of atomic frequencies and of the transactions between atomic energy levels,

In 1989, he received the Nobel Prize in Physics, which he shared with Americans Norman Foster Ramsey and Wolfgang Paul for their contributions to modern microphysics.
