Generation of electrical current by rotating the rotor driven by a turbine

Series of experiments related to understanding how electric current is generated

Aim:

Build a direct current electric generator.

Material:

  • A coil.
  • A cylindrical magnet (obtained from a dryer motor).
  • A turbine (obtained from a washing machine pump).
  • Galvanometer (a milliammeter or a tester is also useful).
  • Connection cables.
  • Support base.

Process:

Observe that if the turbine is rotated, either by a jet of water, steam, wind, etc., the galvanometer needle moves, indicating that an electric current is being produced.
