Like her father, Fréderic Joliot-Curie, and her husband, she graduated in 1949 as an engineer from l'École supérieure de physique et de chimie industrielles de la ville de Paris (ESPCI Paris Tech). The same school where her grandparents, Pierre and Marie Curie, discovered radium and polonium.

Hélène belongs to a family of scientists, her grandparents, her parents, her husband Michael Langevin who was a nuclear physicist, her son is an astrophysicist, her brother Pierre is a biophysicist and a long etc. physical relatives, educators, etc.

Currently, she is a professor of nuclear physics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics at the University of Paris, director of research at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), and a member of the advisory committee of the French government.
