European Atlas on natural radiation

Natural radioactivity can vary from region to region and affect the health of individuals. Radon gas is an example: after cigarette smoking, it is the second leading cause of lung cancer. To pinpoint natural sources of radioactivity, the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission produced the European Atlas of Natural Radiation, in collaboration with more than 60 institutions.
