June 15, 1752 - Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning rod

Benjamin Franklin successfully completed his famous kite experiment, which led to the invention of the lightning rod. That day there was a storm and Franklin grabbed the kite and went out into the field. Through the silk thread the electricity reached the key. So he was clear that if the lightning came out of the clouds and on his way to earth he found a metal conduit to get into, he stayed there. In this way he managed to tame what he called "electric fire".
