February 8, 1834 – Birth of Dmitri Mendeléyev, the father of the periodic table of the chemical elements

Dmitri Ivanovich Mendeleev studied everything from chemistry to aeronautics and has an extensive biography. However, he is best known for discovering the underlying pattern of periodicity in the properties of chemical elements. His studies and conclusions on this subject were published in 1869, together with the first version of what is now known as the periodic table of chemical elements.
