December 8, 1953 – President Eisenhower delivers his ‘Atoms for Peace’ speech

‘Atoms for Peace’ was the title of the speech delivered by Dwight D. Eisenhower at the United Nations General Assembly in New York (United States) that inspired the creation of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

His words may have been a turning point for the international focus on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
