En 1943, detectan su potencial como cient\u00edfico y le ordenan entrar en la Universidad de Breslau (la actual ciudad polaca de Wroclaw) para estudiar F\u00edsica. Sin embargo, es hecho prisionero y liberado tres a\u00f1os m\u00e1s tarde.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continu\u00f3 sus estudios como f\u00edsico y obtiene su doctorado en 1950. En 1952, emigra a Estados unidos para realizar una estancia postdoctoral en la Universidad de Duke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Su destacada carrera le llev\u00f3 a ser profesor en la Universidad de Washington en Seattle (Estados Unidos) y a solicitar y obtener la nacionalidad estadounidense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sus investigaciones, centradas principalmente en el estudio de los componentes primarios de la materia y en los m\u00e9todos de su aislamiento, permitieron el avance de la microf\u00edsica, como, por ejemplo, el incremento de precisi\u00f3n de las mediciones de las frecuencias at\u00f3micas y de las transacciones entre niveles de energ\u00eda at\u00f3mica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>En 1973, Dehmelt consigui\u00f3 aislar un electr\u00f3n, estudiarlo en profundidad y realizar medidas de gran precisi\u00f3n sobre sus propiedades. El gran avance radicaba en que, hasta entonces, todas las medidas cl\u00e1sicas proced\u00edan de datos obtenidos sobre millones de electrones a la vez, por lo que s\u00f3lo se pod\u00eda hablar de estimaciones obtenidas haciendo promedios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avanzando en sus investigaciones, en 1975, Dehmelt logr\u00f3 enfriar las part\u00edculas reduciendo su energ\u00eda para medirlas con mayor precisi\u00f3n. Dichas medidas hacen referencia a frecuencias (saltos cu\u00e1nticos), y al momento magn\u00e9tico del electr\u00f3n, una medida de precisi\u00f3n transcendental para poner a prueba determinadas teor\u00edas sobre electr\u00f3nica cu\u00e1ntica.
