En 1920, una periodista estadounidense llamada Marie Mattingly \"Missy\" Meloney entrevist\u00f3 a Marie Curie en Par\u00eds. Al enterarse de que el laboratorio de Curie no ten\u00eda recursos y de que solo dispon\u00edan de un gramo de radio para investigar (que adem\u00e1s era de su propiedad), Missy se ech\u00f3 las manos a la cabeza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al volver a EE.UU., moviliz\u00f3 a miles de mujeres americanas y lanzaron una campa\u00f1a nacional de recaudaci\u00f3n de fondos: el Marie Curie Radium Fund<\/em>. Consiguieron el dinero y, exactamente el 20 de mayo de 1921, el presidente Warren G. Harding le entreg\u00f3 a Marie Curie en la Casa Blanca la llave de un cofre de caoba que conten\u00eda ese valios\u00edsimo gramo de radio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
