{"id":21466,"date":"2022-11-04T12:37:38","date_gmt":"2022-11-04T11:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/?post_type=re_visita&#038;p=21466"},"modified":"2022-12-23T11:01:29","modified_gmt":"2022-12-23T10:01:29","slug":"virtual-visit-alba-synchrotron","status":"publish","type":"re_visita","link":"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/visits\/virtual-visit-alba-synchrotron\/","title":{"rendered":"Virtual Visit: ALBA Synchrotron (Spain)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ALBA is a&nbsp;<strong>3rd generation Synchrotron Light<\/strong>&nbsp;facility located in Cerdanyola del Vall\u00e8s, (Barcelona), being the&nbsp;<strong>newest source in the Mediterranean area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a&nbsp;<strong>complex of electron accelerators<\/strong>&nbsp;to produce synchrotron light, which allows the visualization of the atomic structure of matter and the study of its properties. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>3 GeV<\/strong>&nbsp;electron beam energy at ALBA is achieved by combining a LInear ACcelerator (LINAC) and a low-emittance, full-energy BOOSTER placed in the same tunnel as the STORAGE RING. ALBA's 270 meter perimeter has 17 straight sections all of which are available for the installation of insertion devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ALBA currently has&nbsp;<strong>ten state-of-the-art operational beamlines<\/strong>, comprising soft and hard X-rays, which are devoted mainly to&nbsp;<strong>biosciences<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>condensed matter<\/strong>&nbsp;(magnetic and electronic properties, nanoscience), and&nbsp;<strong>materials science<\/strong>. Additionally, four beamlines are in construction (low-energy ultra-high-resolution angular photoemission for complex materials, microfocus for macromolecular crystallography, absorption and diffraction, and fast X-ray tomography &amp; radioscopy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This large scientific infrastructure provides more than&nbsp;<strong>6.000 hours of beam time per year<\/strong>&nbsp;and is available for&nbsp;<strong>the academic and industrial sectors,<\/strong>&nbsp;serving more than 2.000 researchers every year. Since as early as 2012, ALBA has been hosting official users, 65% from Spanish institutions and 35% from other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"498\" height=\"216\" src=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/Alba_Sincrotron.jpg\" alt=\"Sincrotr\u00f3n Alba\" class=\"wp-image-21455\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">ALBA Synchrotron<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Virtual Visit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The ALBA Synchrotron organizes&nbsp;<strong>free guided tours<\/strong>&nbsp;where participants can discover what a synchrotron light source is and the applications of its different beamlines and equipment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Profile: The visits are aimed exclusively at <strong>school groups (4th ESO, 1st and 2nd Baccalaureate), university groups, vocational training, and researchers, as well as professional and cultural institutions and associations.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you do not belong to any of these groups, you can visit the installation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cells.es\/es\/divulgacion\/open-day?set_language=es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ALBA OPEN DAY<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Duration: <strong>1,15 hours<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Book a visit has required a minimum of 15 people and a maximum of 30 participants. You will automatically receive a response and, once we have checked your request, you will receive a confirmation e-mail and the instructions to join the videoconference&nbsp;or to enter to ALBA facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>form only shows tours for the next 3 months. On the<\/strong>&nbsp;first working Monday of<strong> every month, new tours will be offered for the following month (in January the form updates the tours available in April; in February tours for May are offered, etc).
