Over time, these remains were buried under layers of sediment and subjected to high pressures and temperatures, causing their chemical and physical transformation.\n\nThere are several types of coal, classified according to their carbon content and calorific value:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Peat<\/strong>: The least evolved, with low carbon content.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lignite<\/strong>: More compact than peat, but still with low calorific value.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hard coal<\/strong>: Medium-quality coal, used in industry.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Anthracite<\/strong>: The hardest and with the highest carbon content, very efficient as a fuel<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Coal can be transformed in several ways, depending on its intended use:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Natural carbonization<\/strong>.
