It is perfectly monitored, controlled, and managed by a public company created for this purpose, Empresa Nacional de Residuos Radiactivos (Enresa). At present, there is a technical solution for the temporary storage, reuse,<strong> and disposal of irradiated fuel.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Laser techniques are known for one of their most popular uses, which is their medical application to correct myopia, but their versatility is so diverse and wide-ranging that they could be applied in many other disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nobel laureate in physics, G\u00e9rard Mourou, for his research in the field of laser physics, <strong>is investigating ways to shorten the life of radioactive waste.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The technique, <\/strong>created by Mourou and the Canadian Donna Strickland, who won the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics, <strong>is known as CPA and consists of taking an ultra-short laser pulse, lengthening it in time, amplifying it and compressing it again, which multiplies its intensity considerably.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is already experience with this type of laser, but more and more applications are being discovered, as G\u00e9rard Mourou acknowledges, pointing out that hundreds of laboratories are working with CPA, citing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.clpu.es\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Spanish Pulsed Laser Centre <\/a>in Salamanca in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The French scientist <strong>is also working to \u2018try to reduce the size of the laser even further\u2019, with the \u2018ambition\u2019 to create particle accelerators with a circumference of a few tens of centimetres, <\/strong>compared to the 27-kilometre diameter of the <a href=\"https:\/\/home.cern\/science\/accelerators\/large-hadron-collider\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Large Hadron Collider (LHC)<\/a> at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laser techniques applied to radioactive waste.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1088,"featured_media":36390,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"tags":[8972,8230,8471,8926],"edad":[7139,7161,7137,7140],"recursos_tipo":[7270],"recursos_tema":[7143,7168],"clasificacion_anterior":[],"class_list":["post-36393","re_recurso","type-re_recurso","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-aplicaciones-de-la-tecnologia-nuclear-en","tag-nuclear-energy","tag-nuclear-technology-applications","tag-radioactive-waste","edad-mas-16-en","edad-06-12-years-old","edad-de-12-a-16-en","edad-todas-las-edades-en","recursos_tipo-theory","recursos_tema-energia-nuclear-en","recursos_tema-nuclear-en-waste"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.8 -
