In some cases, for safety reasons, the fuel handling area is also located in this building to avoid possible radiation to the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Edificio-de-contencion.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-25400\" width=\"324\" height=\"306\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Interior of the containment building of the Vandell\u00f3s II nuclear power plant (Spain)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>It is an airtight structure of reinforced or prestressed concrete, which, as a general rule, is usually spherical or cylindrical in shape, topped by a hemispherical dome, the inner walls of which are covered with welded steel sheets to ensure water-tightness.
