John George Trump, after graduating from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1929 with a degree in electrical engineering, received his doctorate from Columbia University. Shortly afterward, he joined the General Electric Company, where he remained for only a few years, until he joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)<\/a> in 1936 as an assistant professor, teaching until 1973 when he held the position of associate professor and full professor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his early years at MIT, he collaborated with Professor R.J. Van de Graaff<\/a> in the study of the voltage-insulating properties of compressed and high vacuum gases, and the application of Van de Graaff's electrostatic generator to the production of X-rays<\/a> for use in medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
