{"id":22717,"date":"2020-09-10T11:51:00","date_gmt":"2020-09-10T09:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/efemerides\/10-de-septiembre-de-1975-fallece-george-paget-thomson-recibio-el-premio-nobel-de-fisica\/"},"modified":"2024-09-10T12:44:04","modified_gmt":"2024-09-10T10:44:04","slug":"september-10-1975-death-george-paget-thomson-nobel-prize-diffraction-electrons-crystals-demonstration-wave-properties","status":"publish","type":"re_efemeride","link":"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/anniversaries\/september-10-1975-death-george-paget-thomson-nobel-prize-diffraction-electrons-crystals-demonstration-wave-properties\/","title":{"rendered":"September 10, 1975 - Death of George Paget Thomson, Nobel Prize for his studies on the diffraction of electrons in crystals and the demonstration of their wave properties"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"474\" src=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/09\/George_Paget_Thomson.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18185\" style=\"width:307px;height:288px\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The only son of the well-known <a href=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/recursos-educativos\/joseph-j-thomson-nobel-prize-winner-discoverer-electron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sir Joseph John Thomson<\/a>, in 922 he became a professor at the University of Aberdeen, where he carried out experiments that revealed the diffraction of a beam of electrons when passing through a crystalline substance, thus confirming the theories of <a href=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/recursos-educativos\/louis-broglie-noble-physicist-who-transformed-quantum-theory\/\">Louis de Brogli<\/a>e, about wave-particle duality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This new theoretical conception of the nature of radiation made it possible to confirm Einstein's previous hypotheses and explain the Compton effect (named after its discoverer, <a href=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/recursos-educativos\/arthur-compton-confirm-light-wave-particle-properties\/\">Arthur Compton<\/a>), which was lacking in the wave theory of light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1937, he shared the Nobel Prize in Physics with the American physicist <a href=\"https:\/\/rinconeducativo.org\/en\/recursos-educativos\/clinton-davisson-discovered-diffraction-electrons-crystalline-bodies\/\">Clinton J.
