Antoine Henri Becquerel was a French physicist who discovered natural radioactivity and was awarded the 1903 Nobel Prize for Physics, shared with Pierre and Marie Curie. He found that beta radiation is made up of electrons and that radium could be used to destroy tumours, the origin of radiotherapy.
