On April 11, 1957, the largest particle accelerator in the world was inaugurated in Dubna (Soviet Union) to study the fundamental properties of matter. A vast international research laboratory, mainly dedicated to particle physics, heavy ion physics, the synthesis of transuranium elements and radiobiology. Some of the most renowned physicists of the 20th century worked here, such as Nikolai Bogoliúbov, Gueorgui Fliórov, founder of the Flevov Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions, the element 114 Flerovio bears his name.
