May 29, 1919 - Einstein's Theory of Relativity is confirmed

The theory of relativity enunciated by Albert Einstein is confirmed. A solar eclipse allows us to observe how starlight bends as it passes through the Sun's gravitational field, just as Albert Einstein had predicted in his Theory of Relativity. So two expeditions from the Royal Astronomical Society traveled to Brazil and the west coast of Africa to measure the position of the stars visible during the eclipse. His investigations showed that light was bent, a finding that has been considered one of the greatest scientific milestones of the last century.
